One definition of Autism is a complex behavioral and linguistic disorder affecting the immature brain. It has come to the publics awareness due to an astonishing 556% reported increase between 1991 and 1997 alone. Most feel that Autism really hasn’t increased – rather our ability to detect it has improved.
It is pretty well accepted that an allergy to Mercury contributes to Autism. Being that Autism is associated with altered function of many genes, introducing this poisonous heavy metal into a new immature immune system from birth through puberty probable isn’t a good idea.

The Mercury Connection

We adopted three boys with various forms of autism and appreciate those who would blog on such an important subject. People more than ever need to be informed about autism and what life is like for those so affected since this debilitating condition seems to be on the rise.
What worked for us:
Because everyone breathes in an average of 1 mcg of mercury per day, we chelated our son using dmsa and the Andy Cutler protocol. We saw results after just one week. Since then, it has been much harder for us to chelate because of the taste of the “medicine” but we are considering a few more rounds. Our sons gains were almost immediate improvement in attention and eye contact. We also do epsom salt baths, which help somewhat and are easy to do. Probiotics.
What we want to try next:
We are also looking into other contributing factors to his condition, which I believe are pesticides. We have considered inositol for this, and Sam-e for his undermethylation. If anyone has more ideas, please let me know. I am looking into the nicotine receptor research, but not sure what to do with it quite hyet.
What I DONT recommend:
We tried the high-dose Vitamin A treatment and it was a big mistake, a huge setback for our son…so be warned on that one.
I too found that the concept of chelating mercury is a good idea for children or adults with Autism. I have used a product from NutriWest called Total Mercury with great success. It doesn’t have any medicine taste and is well accepted by even young children.
I agree that pesticides are a consideration. One way to eliminate that threat is by doing DNA Allergy Reprogramming clearings for pesticides, herbicides and insecticides.
